About project
We are looking for an RPG/WebSphere Developer/Supervisor to join a project for our client in the United States.
You will be working on business-critical applications running on IBM i (AS/400) and WebSphere platforms, combining hands-on software development and application maintenance with the supervision of a small development team.
In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring system stability, performance, and security while contributing to the modernization of legacy and web-based applications. You will also work closely with business stakeholders, coordinate development activities, review technical solutions, and support continuous improvement across core business systems.
Availability to work in the US time zone, until approximately 6:00–7:00 PM Polish time, and willingness to travel occasionally to the US for business purposes.
Responsibilities
You will be designing, developing, testing, and maintaining business applications using RPG on IBM i (AS/400);
You will be working with WebSphere and related application server technologies, including application deployment, configuration, maintenance, and performance optimization;
You will be supervising and mentoring a small development team, coordinating workloads, reviewing deliverables, and supporting team members in their professional development;
You will be troubleshooting application and system issues, performing root cause analysis, and implementing effective solutions to ensure system stability and reliability;
You will be implementing enhancements and improvements to existing business-critical applications;
You will be collaborating with business stakeholders and cross-functional teams to gather requirements and translate business needs into technical solutions;
You will be reviewing code and promoting software development best practices across the team;
You will be participating in release and change management activities, ensuring smooth and controlled deployment of system changes;
You will be monitoring and supporting integrations between legacy systems and web or service-based applications;
You will be contributing to modernization initiatives across legacy and web-based applications;
You will be preparing and maintaining technical documentation, including system specifications, processes, and solution designs.
Requirements
Strong professional experience in RPG development on IBM i (AS/400), including designing, coding, testing, and maintaining business applications;
Hands-on experience with WebSphere or similar application server technologies, including deployment, configuration, and performance tuning;
Experience in supervising or mentoring technical teams, including task coordination and review of technical deliverables;
Strong knowledge of relational databases and SQL;
Experience integrating legacy systems with web-based or service-based applications;
Solid understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC), change management, and version control tools;
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex application and system issues;
Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with technical teams and business stakeholders;
Ability to gather business requirements and translate them into appropriate technical solutions;
Ability to clearly prepare and maintain technical documentation, specifications, and solution designs;
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience;
Availability to work full-time on-site in Follansbee, West Virginia, USA.
Nice to have
Previous experience working in manufacturing or industrial environments;
